Speaking of which, DJ Derek Plaslaiko is usually sharing his favorite tunes. But today he’s gonna take us around to some his favorite spots in NYC.

We know these three things to be true - the man can spin some tracks, he likes to party & he seriously likes his cheese. No joke. The man’s got some good recommendations, so read them all at XLR8R.

Thunderheist
You might notice a few things start to happen while listening to Thunderheist’s “Jerk It.” Beyond the inevitable head nod, your eyes might narrow into a sultry-sinister squint, your shoulders might launch into the reverse roll, until your hips have no choice but to heed the song’s primary command, and jerk it.

That’s exactly how the duo – producer Grahm Zilla and striking frontwoman Isis – had it planned.

“Without fail, that song gets people [going],” says Zilla. “It brings something out in them. I don’t really know how to explain it. People get totally wrapped up in it. It’s weird because you create this stuff, and you don’t know if it will go over well.”

The Canadian duo is riding a wave – launched by widespread love amongst bloggers, including one Perez Hilton, for “Jerk It” – into worldwide acclaim. They’ve performed all over Europe, including techno-loving Germany, Paris, London, Belgium, and Brussels, and criss-crossed America more than once. They kicked off their latest journey on June 18 at B Live’s Boston date, which also marked a milestone for the group.

“That date was the very first incarnation of Thunderheist with instruments,” says Zilla proudly. “We have a drummer on tour with us now. It’s a pretty new format. We got home two weeks ago from Europe and decided that we were going to switch it up.”

The addition of live percussion punches up the already fearsome combo of Zilla’s synths and Isis’ dead-sexy Missy Elliott-esque delivery.

But the track that’s setting audiences ablaze almost didn’t survive the creative process. “When I made ‘Jerk It,’ I didn’t like it,” says Zilla. “I told Isis it was going to be a temporary beat and I would replace it. But she wouldn’t let me, and it went on to be the biggest song on the album.”

See guys? The lady is always right.

Thunderheist’s self-titled debut album is out now on Big Dada Records.
