Amazing news from the E3 show: BACARDI B-LIVE star—and godfather of mash-ups—DJ Z-Trip will have his own avatar in the extremely anticipated video release DJ Hero. (Like Guitar Hero, but different.) Z-Trip’s joining DJ Shadow and fellow BACARDI B-LIVE performer DJ AM; all involved will create original mixes for the game, which will let players drag the needle across songs by Jay-Z, Eminem and the Beastie Boys – or to jam along to custom DJ mixes.” Guitar Hero devotees will also be able to play the titular instrument with the familiar controller; MCs-in-the-making will have the option of battling by mic. Check out the newly updated site for more information (and, of course, pre-order options), but the basics on offer: “Access Unprecedented Music Variety” (with the chance to “mix and scratch over 100 individual songs, highlighted in over 80 exclusive new mixes that blend genres of music, including hip-hop, electronica, R&B, Motown, pop, and rock”—so, the expected ones, then); “Experience Music in a Revolutionary Way”; “Rule the Hottest Parties”; and “Party with Your Friends.” (We’ve judged the last two more or less the same thing—the alternative being, “Party With Your Friends at the Disappointing Parties”?) DJ Hero’s “DJ Hero 101” is coming soon, but preview tidbits include advice like “Switching between records keep the fader in the central position to hear both records. To hear the left record, slide fader to the left. To switch to the right record, slide the fader to the right.” Release date: October 27. We can’t wait, either.
