IRON DJ

Wondering which BACARDI B-LIVE star is going to cameo in “Iron Man 2”? Looks like DJ AM will be joining the still-emerging cast list, which currently includes comic books icon Stan Lee (who’s supposedly playing a Larry King-type TV show host), Garry Shandling (as “Senator Stern”), and a rumored appearance from G4 uber-hostess Olivia Munn.

GRIN AND (GRATEFUL) BEAR IT

A-Trak fans already know that the DJ and artist/designer Dust La Rock have collaborated on many projects, including A-Trak’s grateful bear insignia. The bear is now officially yours for purchase at Kidrobot: It’s an eight-inch “soft vinyl” figurine, complete with “gold-plated necklace, leather cuff, cotton sweatband, snow-capped igloo, fitted baseball hat, and wayfarers”—all for $50.

THE GRAND LIFE

A few things we’ve just discovered about Matt & Kim, the Brooklyn duo (and BACARDI B-LIVE artists) that we’ve decided they may very well be the breakout artists of the summer.

Interview with Matt Goldman

Graphic designer and event promoter Matt Goldman—also known as MFG—may actually have the best job in the world: He’s a graduate of Shepard Fairey’s renowned Studio Number One, where he was a senior art director, and now he puts together some of the best parties on the planet. We were lucky enough to put his skills to use on this gorgeous poster promoting the BACARDI B-LIVE series this summer, and even luckier to chat with him about working with Shepard Fairey,Team Diplo, and why he’s so devoted to music.

THE HEAVENLY SPIRIT

One more reason to see Ghostland Observatory at BACARDI B-LIVE this summer: Their “shows teeter between a rave and a church service.”

SO HE THINKS HE CAN DANCE

Susan Boyle he’s not, but the 28-year-old Calgary waiter in this clip might (might) be the next YouTube mini-sensation. As BACARDI B-LIVE star Santigold sang “Unstoppable” at the Sasquatch Festival over Memorial Day weekend, he danced.

CANUCK CALLING

Celebratory news from the indie-label world: five years in, Toronto’s Last Gang Records just sold its millionth album. Their roster includes some of our favorite north-of-the-border artists, including BACARDI B-LIVE artist MSTRKRFT (from Toronto) and Tiga (from Montreal, via Turbo Recordings), as well as the equally Canadian New Pornographers.

HOLDING OUT FOR A DJ HERO

Amazing news from the E3 show: BACARDI B-LIVE star—and godfather of mash-ups—DJ Z-Trip will have his own avatar in the extremely anticipated video release DJ Hero. (Like Guitar Hero, but different.) Z-Trip’s joining DJ Shadow and fellow BACARDI B-LIVE performer DJ AM; all involved will create original mixes for the game, which will let players drag the needle across songs by Jay-Z, Eminem and the Beastie Boys – or to jam along to custom DJ mixes.”

No Stop ’Til Daylight

Matt & Kim’s Daylight is one of those songs that you hear once and love for ages.
